Mark Muir, Esq. 

Chief Muir retired in 2013 from the Missoula, Montana, Police Department after more than 22 years of dedicated professional service to the community. During that time he ascended through the ranks holding roles as a patrol officer, field training officer, crisis negotiator, K9 trainer, school resource officer, patrol and detective sergeant, lieutenant and tactical operations commander. He became the Assistant Chief in 2005 and was chosen to lead the MPD in 2008. During his career, Chief Muir utilized his communication and organizational skills to help enhance MPD's reputation for professionalism, transparency and being a problem-solving police agency. 


In 2010,  Mr. Muir formed mgmuir Consulting to provide assistance as a Certified Litigation Consultant to law firms representing law enforcement officers and agencies in civil litigation matters. He has continued with his law enforcement related career as a consultant, independent investigator and expert witness while attaining his Juris Doctor degree in 2017 from the Alexander Blewett III School of Law at the University of Montana. He is a licensed attorney in both Montana and Idaho, admitted to practice in both State and Federal Courts.
